2013 sees the launch of The Huka Retreats Book, Worlds Apart. A publishing project conceived and directed by the owner of The Huka Retreats, Alex van Heeren, Worlds Apart is a stunning 304-page global journey to three of the world’s most special places – Huka Lodge, New Zealand, Dolphin Island, Fiji and Grande Provence in South Africa and retails at R450.00.
Grande Provence Heritage Wine Estate, part of Huka Retreats, lies in the beautiful Franschhoek Valley offering guests a variety of award-winning wines and educational tastings in The Tasting Room, exquisite cuisine in The Restaurant or in the private setting of The Jonkershuis, contemporary art at The Gallery, designer objets d’art in The Shop and luxury accommodation in either The Owner’s Cottage or the new La Provençale.

In addition to The Owner’s Cottage, Grande Provence now presents La Provençale, a charming cottage offering contemporary appointment and comfort for up to four guests, on a bed and breakfast basis at R2, 500.00 per person, per night, on a double-occupancy basis. Rates quoted are inclusive of 14% VAT. At La Provençale guests are accommodated in style within two en suite bedrooms, separated for privacy by a shared lounge. This lounge leads directly on to a magnificent outdoor terrace designed for relaxation with a private swimming pool for guests to enjoy.

Huka Lodge has created a two-night Family Time package to make it even easier to take the family away priced at NZ$1,071.62 per adult, per night for a two night stay. This is available for two adults and two children (between 5 and 10 years of age) travelling together and is available from 1 May to 13 September 2013. The package will include entry to popular local tourist attractions and a romantic dinner date for parents on one of the nights, courtesy of the Lodge’s team of babysitters.
Since the appointment of Darren Badenhorst as the Executive Chef at Grande Provence in charge of The Restaurant, The Jonkershuis and the award-winning, The Owner’s Cottage on the Estate he has now created an array of signature menus for the winter season which demonstrates earthy, warm and hearty dishes, still with a classic French feel but geared towards winter. From 1 May to 30 September guests will be able to experience the Chef’s Table and enjoy exquisite three-course lunches or dinners in The Jonkershuis, for just R275.00 per person excluding drinks and gratuity.
For its celebrated wines, the most recent accolade is 4 ½ stars for its Grande Provence Shiraz 2008 and it has also been named as one of the best Shiraz in South Africa by Classic FM in their Top 6 Shiraz Challenge. During the Harvest this year they were blessed with access to a 28 year old Chenin Blanc which is situated on the upper slopes of the Franschhoek Mountains. From 1 April – October 2013, The Tasting Room will be open from 10h00 until 18h00 where guests can enjoy various wine tastings starting at R20.00 for four wines.
The Gallery at Grande Provence showcases works by leading and emerging South African artists. Throughout the year guests and visitors can expect to see talented artists such as Gordon Froud and Tom Waits putting together a Group Show, solo exhibitions by Lynette Ten Krooden and Andrea Desmond Smith and art work by Paula van Coller Louw during the Ceramic Festival.
