Alterra Set to Purchase Arapahoe Basin Ski Resort in Colorado

Alterra Mountain Co. to acquire Arapahoe Basin from Dream Unlimited, adding it as the 17th ski area in its North American portfolio.

 

Alterra Mountain Co. is set to expand its portfolio by acquiring Arapahoe Basin Ski Area in Colorado from Dream Unlimited Corp., marking a significant addition to its collection of North American destinations. The deal, expected to close later in the year pending regulatory approval, has not had its financial details released.

Arapahoe Basin, affectionately known as A-Basin, will become Alterra's third Colorado ski area, joining the ranks of Steamboat and Winter Park, and its 17th across North America. Since 2019, A-Basin has been part of the Ikon Pass program, offering Ikon Pass holders limited access and adding value to the pass with up to seven days of skiing or riding at A-Basin with the full pass, and up to five days with the Ikon Base Pass.

Despite being smaller in scale with nine lifts and approximately 1,428 acres of skiable terrain, A-Basin is celebrated for its challenging slopes, extended seasons, and casual, welcoming atmosphere, garnering a dedicated fan base. Alterra has committed to maintaining the unique culture and spirit of A-Basin, ensuring that the beloved aspects of the ski area that attract its loyal community are preserved. This commitment extends to retaining Alan Henceroth, A-Basin's current Chief Operating Officer, who will continue his leadership role post-acquisition.

Alterra's acquisition of A-Basin from Dream Unlimited, which has been the steward of A-Basin since 1996, signifies a continued investment in enriching the skiing and snowboarding experiences available within the Ikon Pass network, while respecting the individual identity and heritage of each resort.
