Eurowings Broadens Its Network at Hanover Airport with a Focus on Italy for Summer 2024

Eurowings is set to significantly enhance its operations at Hanover Airport (HAJ), announcing an expansion that includes 17 European city and holiday destinations in its summer 2024 schedule. This development triples the airline’s current offerings from Hanover, highlighting a robust growth strategy for Germany's largest holiday airline.

Strategic Expansion and New Aircraft

As part of its expansion, Eurowings will establish Hanover as its twelfth base in Europe, situating two Airbus A320 aircraft at the airport. This move is integral to the airline's strategy to improve connectivity from Lower Saxony to key vacation spots in southern Europe, particularly in Italy.

Launch Event and Local Support

The expansion was kicked off at a media event featuring Eurowings CEO Jens Bischof and Hanover Airport's Managing Directors, Dr. Martin Roll and Maik Blötz. The event celebrated the arrival of a Eurowings aircraft from Thessaloniki, welcomed with a traditional water salute by the airport’s fire brigade. The airport tower now dons Eurowings' distinctive "Burgundy" color, marking the airline’s growing presence in the region.

Jens Bischof expressed enthusiasm about the new offerings: "We are delighted to be offering a broad programme from Hanover this summer, targeting top destinations that are high on holidaymakers' wish lists." He emphasized that the expansion reflects Eurowings’ commitment to meeting modern travelers' needs for flexibility, comfort, and sustainability.

Support from Regional Leaders

The initiative has garnered positive reactions from local leaders. Lower Saxony’s Economics Minister Olaf Lies, Hanover’s Lord Mayor Belit Onay, and other regional dignitaries praised the expansion for boosting incoming tourism and enhancing the local economy.

Diverse Destination Portfolio

The 2024 summer schedule focuses on Italy, with new direct flights to Rome, Catania, Naples, Bergamo, Bari, Olbia, and Lamezia Terme. Additional destinations include Faro, Malaga, Thessaloniki, Pula, Palma de Mallorca, Stockholm, and Pristina, enriching the travel options for northern Germans and supporting regional tourism.

Looking Ahead

With this expansion, Eurowings not only strengthens its route network but also reinforces Hanover’s position as a significant aviation hub in Germany. The new destinations and increased flight frequency are expected to attract hundreds of thousands of tourists, fostering cultural exchanges and economic growth between the regions connected by these routes.
