Revamped Brussels Airport Marathon Course Takes Runners Through Capital's Heart

On Sunday, November 3, the Brussels Airport Marathon & Half Marathon is set to offer participants a novel experience with a freshly designed route that showcases the very essence of Brussels. This year, marking the event's 19th edition, runners will be treated to a course that begins and ends in the bustling heart of Europe's capital, promising a spectacular finish in the city centre.

Registration for the marathon and its associated races, including the half marathon, a speedy 7 km race, and the Persil 1K Kids Run, is now open, inviting athletes of all levels to partake in the day's festivities.

The race kicks off at De Brouckèreplein, leading runners on an initial loop through the city's scenic core. Half marathon participants will continue their journey through urban streets, while marathon competitors will venture into the Annie Cordy Tunnel, en route to the verdant outskirts of Brussels. The route encompasses the majestic Basilica of Koekelberg, Ganshoren marsh, and the Jette parks before converging again at the Heysel plateau, where participants can enjoy breathtaking views of landmarks such as the Atomium and the Palace of Laeken.

The course introduces several new features this year, including a stretch along the iconic Boulevard Lambermont and a passage through Cinquantenaire Park, while maintaining some of the race's traditional elements. The event organizers promise a memorable finish line in the city centre, details of which will be unveiled on June 3.

"This course embodies the spirit of Brussels and presents our capital at its finest," stated Thomas Huyberechts of Golazo, the event's organizer. "We're eager to welcome thousands of runners from across the globe to experience the beauty and vibrancy of Brussels."

Arnaud Feist, CEO of Brussels Airport, also expressed enthusiasm for the event's unique route and its role in uniting athletes from diverse backgrounds. The marathon not only showcases the city but also aligns with Brussels Airport's mission to foster community through sports.

Due to scheduling conflicts with other autumn events, including a visit from the Pope, this year's marathon has been moved to November 3, following consultations with security services.
