Swiss To Strengthen Long-Distance Connections

News

The airline intends to expand its long-haul services by adding new flights to destinations across three continents.

The airline, which is held by Lufthansa, has announced that the number of weekly flights between Zurich, Geneva and Miami would be increased to up to 14. The airlines will also operate up to 21 weekly flights to New York JFK, 6 weekly flights to San Francisco and Los Angeles, and 7 weekly flights to Boston, Chicago, EWR, and Montreal.

Compared to the existing three times per week, service to Shanghai will increase to six times, while service to Singapore will increase to once per day. In addition to these extended routes to Asia, there are further services operating seven times each week to Bangkok, Delhi, Mumbai, Hong Kong, and Tokyo.

During the winter season, the airline will also operate daily flights to the capital city of Egypt, Cairo, in addition to maintaining daily service to the South African city of Johannesburg.

The forthcoming winter travel season, which begins on October 29, 2023 and ends on March 30, 2024, will see the airline providing service to a total of 21 long-haul locations throughout the globe.

According to the chief business officer for Swiss, Tamur Goudarzi Pour, the company remains able to observe good demand regardless of all of the political and financial difficulties.

“We’re very pleased to be further expanding our range of long-haul services this coming winter… But while doing so, it remains our paramount objective to provide our passengers with stable and reliable flight operations”, Pour commented in a recent statement.

Swiss' decision to boost long-distance services follows the industry's ongoing recovery from the effects of the COVID-19 crisis. Airlines are aiming to expand their services to satisfy increased demand as immunization rates rise and travel restrictions are relaxed in many areas of the globe.

Not only has Swiss announced expansion plans for the next months, but so have a number of other airlines. British Airways, Delta Air Lines, and Emirates are just some of the other airline companies that have announced network expansions. Airlines are anticipating a surge in demand over the next Christmas season from customers who have been waiting a long time to book a flight.
