Index shows continuous increase in business travel job salaries

News

The 2023 H1 Travel Salary Index by C&M Travel Recruitment shows that salaries for new jobs within the travel industry will be increasing.

Business travel has seen a 9.23 percent increase in the last half of the year. The average salary for a new job is now PS32,034.

The figure has increased by 23,33 percent since the first half of 2019.

The report shows that the travel industry as a whole has seen a 12.58 percent increase in the first half of this year. This brings the average salary for a travel job to PS33.445, up by 20.78 percent (or PS5,755) compared to the first six months of 2019 (pre-pandemic).

The salary increase of 17.03 percent in the first six months of 2023 was largely due to executive travel roles that pay PS40,000 or more.

The average of PS58.737 represents an increase of PS8,548 since the beginning of 2022.

Between January and June of 2023, the number of candidates applying for travel jobs has increased by 20% compared to the same months in 2018 and by 28% compared to the same period in 2019

Barbara Kolosinska is the director of C&M Travel Recruitment. She said, "The low salaries offered in the travel industry have always been a barrier to attracting talented people." Travel is seen as an exciting and fun industry, but would it be worth a pay cut to work in this field? We're seeing an increase in salaries across the board.

"With a 21 percent rise since before the pandemic and a 12.5 percent jump in the last year alone, travel salaries are now finally catching up to those in other industries. It's still very much a candidate-driven market with a lack of experienced applicants, but this big jump in salaries should help to entice quality talent to explore the many excellent career opportunities out there right now."
