Air New Zealand Adds Three International Routes from Christchurch
Air New Zealand has announced three new nonstop international routes from Christchurch, connecting the South Island directly to Singapore, Tokyo Narita, and Perth for the first time, with services beginning in late October 2026.
with services beginning in late October 2026.
The expansion is made possible by the return of the airline's Boeing 787 fleet to service following a period of grounding due to global engine maintenance issues, alongside new 787 aircraft entering the fleet. The Christchurch–Singapore service launches first on October 28, followed by Christchurch–Narita on November 28, and Christchurch–Perth on November 30.
The announcement coincides with a Memorandum of Understanding signed between Air New Zealand and Christchurch Airport to align long-term network planning, with both organizations committed to sustainable growth and stronger international connectivity for the South Island.
"With aircraft returning to service, we're now in the fantastic position of being able to grow again, and we are delighted this is going to happen in the South Island," said Air New Zealand Chief Executive Nikhil Ravishankar.
Christchurch Airport Chief Executive Justin Watson called the development a landmark moment, noting the routes create significant opportunities for freight exporters, the tourism sector, and the broader regional economy.
New Zealand's Tourism and Hospitality Minister Louise Upston welcomed the announcement, linking it to the Prime Minister's recent Singapore trade mission and describing it as evidence that stronger international relationships can translate into tangible economic opportunities.
Flights are on sale now, subject to regulatory approval.
