Airbus helicopter performs first 100% SAF flight

The flight is part of the company’s intention to fully understand the impact of sustainable aviation fuel across this part of the aviation industry. To be more specific, Airbus aims to decipher how will SAF use is going to change helicopter operations and protect the environment at the same time.

More tests on other rotorcraft types will be performed over the next couple of years. According to Airbus, the goal is to use 100% sustainable aviation fuel for the company’s air planes and helicopters by the end of 2030.

Stefan Thome, Executive Vice-President of Engineering and Chief Technical Officer at Airbus Helicopters explained:

“This flight with SAF powering the twin engines of the H225 is an important milestone for the helicopter industry. It marks a new stage in our journey to certify the use of 100 percent SAF in our helicopters, a fact that would mean a reduction of up to 90 percent in CO2 emissions.”

Airbus Helicopters aims to show its commitment to the environmental causes and reduce CO2 emissions for all its aircraft by 50 percent by 2030.
