American Airlines to Launch JFK-Tokyo Flights

Airlines & Airports

Starting June 28, American Airlines will be the sole U.S. carrier flying nonstop from New York (JFK) to Tokyo (HND). This service offers connections to over 30 destinations via Japan Airlines. Tickets go on sale Feb. 26.

American Airlines is set to inaugurate direct flights from New York's JFK Airport to Tokyo's Haneda Airport (HND) on June 28, marking its exclusive position as the only U.S. airline to provide a direct route between these two cities. This service not only simplifies travel to Japan but also enhances connectivity, with over 30 onward destinations in Japan and East Asia accessible via its partner, Japan Airlines.

The U.S. Department of Transportation recently greenlit American Airlines' application, enabling it to operate the unique nonstop service. Brian Znotins, American’s Senior VP of Network and Schedule Planning, expressed enthusiasm about the new route, highlighting its role in bolstering the airline's offerings alongside those of Japan Airlines, thus facilitating more travel options between the U.S. and Japan.

Starting February 26, travelers can book their flights through the airline's website or mobile app. The collaboration between American and Japan Airlines ensures a robust flight network between the two nations. This summer, passengers will have the choice of up to three daily flights between JFK and HND, scheduled at convenient times.

The upcoming daily flight by American will connect passengers to over 30 cities across Japan and East Asia, operated by Japan Airlines, including key destinations like Osaka, Sapporo, and Fukuoka. Additionally, this service adds to American’s existing flights to HND from Dallas-Fort Worth and Los Angeles, increasing the total to four daily nonstop flights.

The flight schedule includes a Boeing 777-200 aircraft departing from JFK at 11:25 a.m., arriving in HND the next day at 2:30 p.m., with the return flight leaving HND at 4:30 p.m. and arriving back at JFK at 4:35 p.m. Japan Airlines will also maintain its service, offering flights between these airports, thus ensuring ample options for travelers.

This collaboration between American and Japan Airlines will provide up to 17 daily flights between the continental U.S. and Japan next summer, including 10 to HND, presenting a comprehensive and convenient flight schedule for passengers traveling to Japan.
