Another Climbing Tragedy Saddens Nepal
An Irishman was found dead and an Indian was reported missing on the Nepalese mountain of Annapurna.
Mount Annapurna has claimed the lives of a mountaineer from Northern Ireland and left another from India lost after both fell into a crevasse.
According to the expedition leaders, Noel Hanna passed away while descending the tenth highest peak in the world. At the same time, an Indian climber was forced to spend the night enduring the hard circumstances and harsh weather on the mountain's top after feeling sick on the descent from the impressive 8.091-meter peak.
According to Thaneswar Guragai, who works with Seven Summit Treks headquartered in the capital of the country, Irish Noel Hanna passed away while he was descending from the mountain top. For the moment, the exact cause of death is still to be determined. The climber's remains were transferred to the city of Kathmandu.
Indian Anurag Maloo had fallen through a crevasse on the very same peak on Monday. The effort to locate him is still ongoing.
Moreover, Baljeet Kaur, a third climber, managed to ascend the peak but got weary and unwell on the descent without taking any additional bottled oxygen. After spending the night outdoors on the mountain, Kaur was successful in calling for help, was airlifted out and got transferred to a medical facility in Kathmandu to receive proper care.
As for now, hundreds of mountaineers have already began the ascent of the Himalayas in Nepal this spring. Unfortunately, last week only, three Sherpa leaders disappeared after falling into a narrow crevasse while climbing a dangerous part of Everest.
Countless people, including experienced alpinists, have lost their lives on their way to conquer the highest peaks of the world due to avalanches, falls, serac collapse, exposure, frostbite, or other mountain-related hazards. The exact number of fatalities remains unknown so far, since not all corpses have been found.
