As international tourism lifts restrictions, Indians travel intensively

News

Indian tourists begin to spend lavishly, as international travel resumes after the pandemic. Local traffic expected to boost to 415,000 air travellers a day.

“People are living their lives and splurging on travel. It’s a shift which is happening for good, for long-term”, commented Prashant Pitti, co-founder of EaseMyTrip.

More Indians are choosing air travel and five stars hotels as the country finally opened up to international travel. With more than 415.000 daily fliers expected in the year to come, Indian airlines are beginning to add more flights in order to cope with the increasing traffic demand.

“India is looking great, in lines to recover very rapidly from the onslaught which we all have been through in the last two years. The pent-up demand won’t shorten for next couple of years”, Pitti added.

Bookings for flights and hotels have doubled since Sunday, as Indians now spend 4.7 days for a holiday, a 1.5 days increase when compared to the period before the Covid-19 pandemic. The study was conducted by EaseMyTrip, a company owned by Easy Trip Planners Ltd.. The firm offers hotel and transportation bookings.

EaseMyTrip saw a revenue of 9 billion rupees ($118 million), scoring an almost 3 billion rupees increase when compared to the previous travel year. Nevertheless, the increase is expected to stop at some point soon, due to the rise in oil prices that translates into significantly higher airfares.
