Canadian travel industry expected to resume after removal of “unnecessary” restrictions
The measure aims to benefit travel industry in the country, seriously affected by the pandemics.
An announcement from the authorities is expected for next week, the Minister said.
The Canadian Travel and Tourism Roundtable national coalition also replied to the official statements, while agreeing that relaxing of restrictions is necessary.
"The Canadian Travel and Tourism Roundtable looks forward to the federal government announcing changes to its travel and border measures next week. There is no scientific reason that justifies travel being singled out as the only activity that requires testing and isolation.
“Accordingly, we are hopeful that the Canadian government will establish a plan with a clear timeline for removing restrictions, including the removal of unnecessary pre-departure and arrivals testing and isolation requirements for fully vaccinated travellers and blanket travel advisories, as has been done by other international jurisdictions", the group’s representatives commented.
However, Minister Duclos underlined that the Omicron pandemics is not over yet and officials will be cautious in regards of further decisions.
“We’re not out of the woods yet. We will base our decision-making on science and prudence. Given that we have several layers of protection, we can play off them.”
Unlike other countries, that are currently loosening travel restrictions, Canada still recommends its citizens against all non-essential travel, while asking everyone for a negative PCR test when entering its borders.
