Chicago’s Navy Pier Celebrates the Holidays with an All-Ages Experience

Chicago residents and tourists will celebrate the holiday season through an all-ages experience: Light Up the Lake.
Chicago's Navy Pier celebrates the holidays with Light Up the Lake, an all-ages event that runs through January 7. It features 600,000 twinkling lights, whimsical sculptures and an Alpine skating rink. Highlights include:
Roseaux - A playful interactive art installation that consists of 12 illuminated, reeds rising multiple stories into the air. Roseaux allows users to activate the base by stepping on sensors and rhythmically propelling a variety of vibrant colors up its stem. The fun-filled race gives the reeds one solid color, whether it is done alone or with a group. A visual parade is punctuated with a vibrant soundscape that synchronizes light and sound to create an exciting sensory experience.
Light Sculptures – Scores of large-than-life sculptures are based on holiday and toy themes. These include a huge Teddy Bear, a deer that flies 25 feet, a 60-foot-long light tunnel, a tree over 40 feet tall, and even a rubber duckie.
Ice Skating Rink - Guests are welcome to stay early and go on the ice for a spin at the Alpine ice-skating rink. You can bring your own skates but they will not be provided unless you request them. Lockers are also available.
Santa's Village – Adults and children can board the Holiday Train to take a ride to Santa’s Village. Santa Claus will be there to help them wish their holidays. Jolly Olde Post Office is available for guests to mail their letters.
"Stomp Light Activity" - This collection of 100 interactive light disks provides an engaging experience for everyone. Interactive LED floor pods change color instantly when touched.
"Light Memory Game" - Guests interact with light sculptures via their smartphones.
Birch Tree Forest – Guests will wind their way through a maze made up of over 100 lighted, 8-foot-tall birch trees. Every turn, right or wrong, offers opportunities to take immersive selfies.
Reflecting Pond – The Frozen Pond offers a tranquil area for reflection and a spectacular photo-op opportunity for guests.
Magic Wands – With just one tap, guests of all ages can create their own color stories in Light Up the Lake. Guests will have the opportunity to interact with over 30 magic objects. The ticket price does not include a wand.
Centennial Wheel – Each ticket includes a ride aboard Navy Pier's 200-foot Centennial Wheel. This iconic wheel offers 360-degree views over the city and frozen Lake Michigan. Weather permitting, guests can ride the Centennial Wheel during their Light Up The Lake tour. This $18 ticket is valid until 2023.
Light Up the Lake single tickets start at $15 per child and $27 per adult depending on the day. For a small fee, you can purchase magic wands at the main entrance.
