Delta Celebrates 20 Years of Leading Tourists to Costa Rica’s Paradise

News

Delta Air Lines celebrates 20 years of helping tourists discover Guanacaste in Costa Rica.

This paradise features natural parks that can be used for sustainable tourism, white sand beaches and other attractions that add a special charm to the destination.

Delta started service to Guanacaste back in 2002. Since then, it has flown more than 2.4 millions people to the destination. Delta currently offers daily service between its Atlanta hub and Guanacaste’s Daniel Oduber International Airport. A second Saturday flight will be added to the existing four-times weekly seasonal service that departs from its Minneapolis-St. Paul hub.

The occasion was celebrated by Delta in Guanacaste on Thursday. It delighted and delights arriving and departing customers with traditional music, cultural dance demonstrations and local treats.

Luciano Macagno (Delta's Managing director Latin America, South Florida and the Caribbean), said that Delta is delighted to celebrate this milestone with its customers, employees, and partners in Costa Rica. We are proud to support this beautiful, biodiverse destination which embodies sustainable tourism. We are looking forward to connecting more travelers between Guanacaste and the U.S.

The 20th anniversary celebrations of Delta Air Lines' flight to Guanacaste are significant in historical context. This marked the debut of the first U.S.-based airline to fly to Guanacaste. It was a modest feat and was made possible by the support of the private sector. It marked the start of international operations to Guanacaste, which was based in the United States. "We recognize Delta as the pioneer airline that placed its bets on the Pacific Province and made it possible to our main market discover it, contributing to its tourism growth," stated William Rodriguez, Costa Rica Tourism Minister.

Delta Air Lines' 20th Anniversary to Guanacaste Airport is something very special, especially since Delta was the first airline to service the original terminal. We have all worked together to make this destination a favorite for U.S. tourists. "We are looking forward to 2023 with good visitor numbers and we know that Delta will continue to work with Guanacaste Airport to allow more people to enjoy Guanacaste," stated Cesar Jaramillo.

40 YEARS TO PUERTO VALLARTA MEXICO
The 40th anniversary of Delta's service to Puerto Vallarta (Mexico), was also celebrated by Delta in October. This iconic beach spot on the Pacific coast is also the occasion for Delta. This route was first established by Western Airlines in 1982. It is located on the north coast of Jalisco. After a 1987 merger, Delta began offering non-stop flights between Los Angeles and six major Mexican destinations. Delta operates seasonal and year-round flights to this destination from its hubs in Atlanta and Detroit, Minneapolis-St. Paul and Salt Lake City. Puerto Vallarta, also known as "The Friendliest City in The World", is a favorite destination for LGBTQ travelers. It is well-known for its authentic Mexican culture and vibrant beaches.
