Dubai builds the highest tower in the world

Starting this Monday, Dubai began the construction works on the tallest tower in the world, a structure taller even than the famous Burj Khalifa that currently, from a height of 828 meters, holds the record for the highest skyscraper in the world, AFP writes. Mohammed Alabbar, Chairman of Emaar Properties PJSC, made this revelation in a recent interview with CNN.
The new tower will be "a notch" taller than the world's tallest skyscraper, Burj Khalifa, developer says. "In 2020, the year of the Universal Exhibition that will be held in Dubai, this structure will become the highest tower in the world", according to a statement made on the press release about the construction opening. However, he declared that the final height will be announced upon completion, adding that his company would like to present the tower as a "gift to the city before 2020," the year Dubai hosts the world Expo trading fair.
As in April, the real estate giant Emaar announced the construction of this tower which it is claimed to be taller than the Burj Khalifa, without however specifying his exact height. Construction costs were estimated at approximately $ 1 billion (900 million euros). Designed by the Spanish-Swiss architect Santiago Calatrava Valls tower will be equipped with an observation platform and between 18 and 20 floors reserved for hotels and restaurants.
Burj Khalifa was opened in January 2010 and it has become one of the jewels of this emirate, an increasingly popular tourist destination.
In the race for the tallest building in the world, the company Kingdom Holding of Saudi Prince Al-Walid ben Talal launched construction in Jeddah (Saudi Red Sea port) of a tower that will surpass the height of 1,000 meters, according to AFP.
