Dubai Opera House was opened with a monumental show

News

Tenor Placido Domingo created a magical moment Wednesday at the opening of the Dubai Opera House, located next to the world's tallest tower, Burj Khalifa. The new art institution was created in order to expand the cultural offer for tourists all over the world and to create awareness of the Arab Emirates cultural market, writes the news agency France Presse (AFP).

The Spanish tenor, one of the most famous in the world, played in front of about 2,000 spectators, according to organizers who invited the press to this event. The hall was full as the event was sold out soon after the announcement of the Grand Opening, the sources added. This is the first show at the Opera House in Dubai, built nearby Burj Khalifa, the tallest tower in the world with a height of 828 meters.
The Opera building, with imposing glass facades, resembles a traditional Arab sailing ship on the Red Sea, as wood craft is still used in regional sea transport. “We want visitors who come to the opera house to activate the plaza and the neighborhood,” said architect Janus Rostock, regional design director at WS Atkins, the mastermind behind the emirate’s first Opera House.

Experts and music professional worldwide show profound interest in visitng the Dubai Opera House:"I think the acoustic is generous. It's an acoustic that makes the life of the singer easier than in other places, so it's really fantastic,” said Stefano Pace, the CEO of Teatro Verdi Trieste, the Italian opera company that’s bringing ‘The Barber of Seville’ and ‘The Pearl Fishers’ to the Dubai Opera.

After Domingo’s daunting task of opening the house on Wednesday night, other big name performances will follow, including French opera The Pearl Fishers on September 1 and 3, the Romantic ballet Giselle on September 16, Jose Carreras’ final world tour, A Life in Music, in October, and of course, Broadway shows Les Miserables in November and West Side Story in February.
