Emirates passengers have been delighted with the increase in free connectivity since January 2023. The airline now sees 450,000 monthly users on average. The increase in passenger usage is 30% compared to the same time last year. Nearly 10% of passengers use the free Wi-Fi onboard. Nearly 20% of passengers use Wi-Fi aboard flights through the Americas. On European and African routes, over 11% of passengers are using the service.
Patrick Brannelly commented, "Emirates has persistently worked with our service providers to optimise and improve the connectivity experience. In March we delivered about 55% more data per customer session compared to early 2022 despite the number of sessions increasing by 68% in the same period. We will continue to work to invest in upgrades and enhancements, and our A350 aircraft will arrive with the next generation of satellite connectivity already equipped."
Emirates announced it would also offer high-speed inflight broadband powered By Inmarsat GX Aviation on 50 new Airbus A350 planes, scheduled to enter service by 2024. This new agreement will improve passenger experiences with increased connectivity and global coverage even when flying over the Arctic. Emirates' Airbus A350s are the first aircraft to use Inmarsat Global Xpress satellite network. This network powers the only global broadband network and is the world's most advanced. Passengers will enjoy seamless connectivity no matter where they travel, even the North Pole. Emirates passengers will be able to browse the web, enjoy social media and stay in touch with their family and friends from the comforts of their seats, thanks to the high-speed broadband. Emirates has also announced an investment of more than US$350 million in equipping a fleet of 50 A350s that will be arriving in 2024, with enhanced passenger connectivity. This includes Thales' AVANT-Up system and Optiq – the first smart display to offer built-in WiFI, two Bluetooth connections for passengers to connect multiple devices, including phones, tablets or headphones, as well as game controllers. It can also support up to 60 watts USB C to fast charge personal devices.
