Eurowings Launches First Jet-Design Hot Air Balloon Over Mallorca

In a celebration filled with glamour and excitement, Eurowings has unveiled its first hot air balloon in jet design, named "Burgundy Dreams Victoria I," on the picturesque island of Mallorca.

A Unique Addition to Eurowings’ Fleet

Eurowings, Germany's leading holiday airline, marked a new milestone with the christening of its first hot air balloon. The event took place at the scenic Hacienda Son Antem Golf Resort in Mallorca, with 60 distinguished guests from politics, economics, and media in attendance. Among them were Eurowings CEO Jens Bischof and entrepreneur Victoria Swarovski, who had the honor of serving as the balloon's godmother.

From April Fool's Joke to Reality

The balloon's story began as an April Fool's joke on April 1, 2024, when Eurowings announced its entry into the hot air ballooning business. The joke quickly gained traction, with numerous balloon pilots applying to join the project and the public eagerly anticipating the launch. Fueled by this enthusiasm, Eurowings decided to turn the joke into reality, commissioning the balloon's creation at a factory in Barcelona.

Burgundy Dreams Victoria I: A Flying Landmark

Standing at an impressive 22 meters tall—equivalent to eight storeys—the "Burgundy Dreams Victoria I" is a visual marvel. The balloon features the signature colors and branding of Eurowings, but what truly sets it apart is its jet design. The balloon uniquely displays the outline of an airplane, complete with a cockpit at the front, a tail unit at the back, and wings on the sides.

A Tribute to Mallorca

The decision to christen the balloon on Mallorca was a nod to the island's longstanding popularity among German tourists and its significance to Eurowings. With nearly 1,000 employees based there, Mallorca serves as the airline's largest international hub outside Germany. "Mallorca is our centerpiece outside Germany," remarked Eurowings CEO Jens Bischof during the ceremony.

A New Symbol of Travel Passion

The naming ceremony concluded with a breathtaking ascent of the balloon into the evening sky over Mallorca. The "Burgundy Dreams Victoria I" now stands as a symbol of Eurowings' commitment to fulfilling travel dreams, capturing the essence of wanderlust, and offering unique, emotionally enriching experiences. Over the next ten years, this striking balloon will continue to soar above Mallorca, embodying the spirit of adventure that defines Eurowings as Germany's largest vacation airline.
