Global music icon Gwen Stefani named the godmother of Carnival Jubilee, Carnival Cruise Line's new flagship, in a celebratory event in Galveston, featuring a private concert and marking the city's first cruise ship christening.
In a dazzling event in Galveston, Texas, Carnival Cruise Line unveiled its latest marvel, the Carnival Jubilee, with global music phenomenon Gwen Stefani as the ship's godmother. The celebration, which coincided with the centennial of Carnival Cruise Line’s founder Ted Arison, saw the declaration of “Carnival Jubilee Day” by Galveston Mayor Craig Brown, honoring both the ship's christening and the city's long-standing relationship with Carnival.
During the festivities, Stefani took part in various onboard activities, from visiting the bridge and sounding the ship's horn to inaugurating several ship venues alongside Carnival's Chief Culinary Officer Emeril Lagasse and unveiling a St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital sculpture inspired by patient Ty. The day also saw Stefani receiving a special godmother gift, an EFFY Legacy panther ring, at the EFFY Jewelry store.
The naming ceremony, attended by an array of dignitaries, community leaders, and Carnival enthusiasts, underscored Carnival Jubilee's unique position as the first new ship to call Galveston its home and the first to be christened in the city. Christine Duffy, President of Carnival Cruise Line, highlighted the ship’s commitment to Galveston and celebrated the company's philanthropic milestones, including a new pledge goal for St. Jude and a fundraising auction for Operation Homefront.
Stefani, recognized for her music career and philanthropic efforts, officially named the ship in a traditional champagne christening before delivering an electrifying private concert for the attendees, featuring some of her biggest hits.
Carnival Jubilee, now sailing from Galveston on Western Caribbean cruises, stands as a testament to Carnival’s commitment to innovation and fun at sea, boasting LNG technology and a plethora of onboard attractions, including a roller coaster. The ship's introduction sets the stage for the arrival of its sister ships in the coming years, further expanding Carnival's fleet of Excel-class vessels.
