Helsinki Airport Doubles Lounge Space to Meet Growing Demand

Airlines & Airports

Growing Popularity of Airport Lounges

Helsinki Airport is responding to the rising global trend of passengers seeking enhanced travel experiences by doubling its lounge facilities. Nora Immonen, Finavia’s Head of Commercial Services Business at Helsinki Airport, noted the significant increase in lounge demand. "More leisure passengers are looking for pleasant travel experiences already at the airport," Immonen stated.

New and Renovated Lounges

Swissport, Europe’s largest lounge operator, is set to open a new Aspire lounge at gate 22 by the end of the year. Additionally, the existing Aspire lounge at gate 27 will be renovated and reopened in 2025.

In July, Finnair launched a new two-section lounge near gate 21 on the third floor, adding 1,500 square meters of lounge space. This new lounge features 440 seats, an increase of almost 150 seats from previous offerings, and can be accessed by escalator or elevator.

Enhanced Passenger Experience

With travelers taking more leisure trips, the need for comfortable and enjoyable airport experiences has grown. "We are developing Helsinki Airport’s range of services by following travel trends, which is reflected in high customer satisfaction," Immonen added. The renovated lounges aim to provide more opportunities for passengers to relax and enjoy their journey.

Comprehensive Lounge Services

Post-renovation, Helsinki Airport will boast a total of 3,000 square meters of lounge space. Current lounges, such as the Aspire Lounge at gate 13, the Plaza Premium Lounge at gate 40, and the Finnair Lounge at gate 52, will continue to offer their existing services. Access to all Aspire and Plaza Premium lounges can be purchased.

Immonen highlighted the benefits for all travelers, saying, "Comprehensive lounge services combined with new hotel and meeting services are a welcome addition to both business and leisure passengers at Helsinki Airport."
