JetBlue Adds Three New Routes

News

According to JetBlue's Wednesday press release, the airline will add three new routes this summer to its flight catalog.

This announcement is part of a plan by JetBlue to expand its flight network, and capitalize on a growing demand for travel.

JetBlue will add three new routes to their flight network.

  • John F. Kennedy International Airport, JFK to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, DCA
  • Westchester County Airport (HPN), to Martha's Vineyard Airport(MVY).
  • Westchester County Airport (HPN), Charleston International Airport (CHS).
  • The Embraer E190 will serve the JFK-DCA route, while the Airbus A320 will service the other routes. JetBlue has 46 E190s, 124 A320s, and it is worth noting.

JetBlue offers a range of tickets starting at $59 per person and can be booked on their website.

JetBlue's participation as a member of the Northeast Alliance (for which American Airlines is also a part) made these new routes possible. This alliance was established in 2020. It is responsible for several new flights and increased frequency of existing flights. The alliance also offers frequent flyer perks that JetBlue and American share. The U.S. Department of Justice sued the partnership in 2021 for anti-competitive behavior, but allowed it to continue.

The addition of a JetBlue flight between New York and Washington is one example in which the Northeast Alliance has brought competition to the aviation industry. This challenge was made possible by the fact that Delta, which is currently the dominant airline on the route, did not approve.

Gregory Meeks, Congressman, spoke out about the new routes.

"As a very frequent flyer from JFK in New York's 5th Congressional District to our nation's capital, I am excited to see new low fare competition on this route... JetBlue has been part of our community in Queens, New York, and JFK for more than 23 years, setting the bar on low fares and customer service. I look forward to even more growth with this long-sought addition to their network."
