JetBlue And Shell Have Reached A Sustainable Aviation Fuel Agreement
The airline has inked a deal with Shell Aviation to purchase 10 million gallons of mixed SAF over the course of the next two years for use at Los Angeles International Airport.
The first half of 2023 is when it is anticipated that the carrier will start receiving deliveries of the fuel. According to JetBlue, the extra SAF that will be delivered by Shell will bring JetBlue's overall SAF supply at LAX up to about 15 percent of the airport's total jet fuel intake.
The agreement also contains a provision that allows for the purchase of up to 5 million gallons of additional fuel for use at LAX or any other airports during the third year.
According to JetBlue, the partnership with Shell would let the airline to provide its corporate clients with Avelia, one of the first blockchain-powered digital SAF book-and-claim systems for corporate travel. Via the purchase of SAF certificates that are provided by JetBlue, businesses will have the ability to reduce the emissions caused by their business trips. Shell and Accenture, with assistance from the Energy Web Foundation, were the companies responsible for developing Avelia. The initiative also covers the services provided by American Express Global Business Travel to combine the demand for SAF coming from businesses throughout the world.
In February, JetBlue entered into a partnership with Chooose for the purpose of collecting consumer donations for SAF. Contracts for SAF supplies have also been made with Fidelis New Energy, Air Company, SG Preston, World Energy, World Fuel Services, and Neste.
