According to a travel trend estimate published by JTB Corp., the number of tourists visiting Japan will surge by 450% over the previous year's level in 2023.

Since the nation's COVID-19 border control procedures were loosened up in October of last year, there has been a significant rise in the number of visitors entering the country. It is now predicted that around 21.1 million tourists will arrive in Japan in 2023, which is equivalent to 66% of the 2019 level.

Japan is a favourite holiday spot for tourists coming from both Western and Asian nations. Recently, there has been a significant rise in the number of visitors coming from South Korea, Thailand, and Singapore. However, JTB forecasted that the number of tourists coming from China will not completely return until the month of July, despite the fact that Beijing has recently lifted its zero-COVID tight regulations.

On the other hand, domestic tourism is predicted to rise by 8.6% year-on-year, reaching 266 million and rebounding to over 90% of the level seen in 2019. It is also anticipated that over 8.4 million people would travel internationally, which is a 190% increase from the previous year.

Nevertheless, prices are predicted to be higher and gasoline costs are projected to rise owing to the pandemic, making all modes of transportation more costly than they were before the global crisis.
