Khaybar Volcano Camp is Now Open in Saudi Arabia

News

Launched on one of the most active volcanic fields in Saudi Arabia, Khaybar Volcano Camp is the first-of its kind.

This site is located in Khaybar, an oasis that dates back to ancient times and has been opened to tourists just three hours from AlUla.

Khaybar is one of the oldest and most well-known archaeological sites in the Arabian Peninsula. It was created from extinct volcanoes that over time became a geological wonder. People can now camp, enjoy wellness experiences, and explore the lands that once belonged to ancient civilisations at their leisure.

Khaybar Volcano Camp is located about 150 km north of Madinah. It opened last week.

According to Saad Tazi (the camp's general manager), one of the most important aspects of travelling is discovering new natural wonders of the world.

Luxury camping is located in Khaybar's heart, among volcanic rocks and overlooking the white volcano.

Tazi said that hospitality in Saudi Arabia is the future. He spoke about the challenges of setting up camps among volcanoes. "We are fortunate to be the first country in the world to build a luxury camp right next to a volcano. This is possible only in Saudi Arabia.

Tazi brings his vast experience working at luxury hotels brands such as The Ritz-Carlton and Rosewood to Saudi Arabia. He says, "I have always wanted to experience Saudi culture since I was young. I'm from Morocco and we are very near."

"Saudis have strong hospitality. It's ingrained in our religion, education, and hospitality."

He said that Saudi Arabia is unique because it's "unreal", has never been seen before and, of course the Saudi culture.

A friendly team of staff will greet guests at camp and check them in within five mins. Then, they will take them to their camps. Participants can take part in a silent meditation at sunrise or sunset as part of the welcome ceremony.

Ten metallic-looking, black camps are scattered over volcanic ground. This adds a new dimension and makes it seem like something from Mars.

Interiors are inspired by the outdoors and feature black, white, and shades of grey and charcoal. Sara Ibrahim's works of art, which combine modern, local, and out-of this-world perspectives, are used to complement the plush bedding and decor.

Tazi said that the hotel hosts customized events for special occasions such as birthdays and anniversaries. These include fine-dining experiences, meditation sessions, and even dining out.

He says, "At the property, we must be different, provide quality and luxury, to provide an experience that is different than a 5-star hotel."

The team offers stargazing experiences with state-of the-art telescopes, heritage tours of Khaybar, folklore session featuring local storytellers and guides, and musical performances.

A team of staff also provides an amenities kit for travelers, which includes warm gloves, pyjamas and torches, as well as pens, diaries, pencils, and woollen scarves and caps in every room.

Lebanese Reiki master and Chamuel Of Light offers customized wellness experiences in the camp. "My grandmother was a light worker, and she instilled those seeds in me as her first grandchild. Here I am, in Khaybar which I love so much.

He is a believer in mindfulness and the power of "the now".

"I help beautiful people increase their vibrational frequencies so that their energy reaches an amazing level of self-love and self-validation with so many energy modities in abundance such as sound healing, guided mediation, yoga, motivational talking."

He says that his guided sound meditation sessions can help people "wake up as completely different, happier people".

The Royal Commission of AlUla is soon to offer hot-air balloon rides so guests can enjoy breathtaking views of Khaybar and other sights from the sky.
