Last year was the “safest” in aviation history

Announcements

According to the Aviation Safety Network (ASN) report, 2015 recorded the fewest number of fatal plane accidents

With 16 deadly crashes and 560 fatalities registered, 2015 is the “safest” year in aviation history. Two of the jets involved in these accidents were operated by EU black list airlines.

The most severe incident last year was the downing of the Metrojet flight 9268, resulting in 224 people dead.

Harro Ranter, President of the Aviation Safety Network, declared:

“Since 1997 the average number of airliner accidents has shown a steady and persistent decline, for a great deal thanks to the continuing safety-driven efforts by international aviation organizations such as ICAO [International Civil Aviation Organization], IATA, Flight Safety Foundation and the aviation industry.”

2015 is therefore considered to be the safest in terms of fatal accidents, but overall only the fifth safest in terms of number of victims.
