Latest data indicates the busiest air flight in South America
According to new Routes research, the busiest air trip in South America is the flight connecting São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
As showed by the data available, an average of 4 million people chose the 378 kilometre trip between São Paulo Congonhas and Rio de Janeiro’s Santos Dumont Airport during a one year period, making the air route the most popular in the region, with a registered number of 110 flights per day.
The connection on the second place is the one linking Lima, the capital of Peru, with Cuzco, in the Peruvian Andes, with 2.47 million visitors taking the 583 kilometres trip.
The domestic route between Bogota to José María Córdovaranked third in the top three, with 80 flights each day, while also registering the cheapest fares in the top ten (an average of $50 dollars a ticket).
The research belongs to Routes and has been released two months before of the aviation conference in Quito, Ecuador, during 13th and 15th of February.
“Routes Americas will bring together senior decision makers from the region’s airlines, airports and destinations to plan new services. They will also discuss increasing the frequency and capacity of the existing routes that are popular with passengers. The negotiations in Quito could lead the way to the busiest South American routes of the future,” explained Steven Small, brand director at Routes.
Avianca, American Airlines, LATAM Airlines Group, Delta Air Lines and Copa Airlines have already confirmed their participation at the event in Ecuador as major airline players in the area.
