Airlines & Airports

Nonstop flight services to Frankfurt are going to be released by Lufthansa, a joy for those who travel this route often.

In 2024, Lufthansa is set to inaugurate nonstop flight services to Frankfurt, opening up convenient access for travelers in the Triangle area to Germany and an extensive network of destinations across Europe, the Middle East, India, Africa, and beyond.

Michael Landguth, the President and CEO of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority, expressed his enthusiasm, heralding the arrival of Lufthansa in the Raleigh-Durham market. The introduction of nonstop flights to Frankfurt, a renowned German destination and a pivotal airline hub, promises seamless connections to popular global destinations.

The commencement of the Frankfurt route is scheduled for June 6, 2024, featuring five weekly flights aboard an A330-300 aircraft. Frankfurt serves as a major hub within the Lufthansa Group, the largest airline conglomerate in Europe. Lufthansa becomes the third member of the Star Alliance to serve RDU, alongside United Airlines and Air Canada.

Dirk Janzen, Vice President Passenger Sales, The Americas, Lufthansa Group Airlines, conveyed his excitement about expanding their presence in the United States with the introduction of the Raleigh-Durham to Frankfurt route. He highlighted the region's burgeoning economy, robust infrastructure, as well as its rich academic landscape with numerous universities and educational institutions. Janzen emphasized that this expansion aligns with Lufthansa's commitment to provide global connectivity and affirmed the United States as a pivotal market for Lufthansa Group outside of Europe. It marks the establishment of new gateways, creating additional travel opportunities while linking the vibrant local community to Europe's foremost financial and cultural centers.

Lufthansa's arrival will mark the 16th airline operating at RDU, with Frankfurt joining the ranks as the eighth international destination. RDU has significantly expanded its reach, adding 21 new destinations and 46 fresh routes in 2023. Over a span of 25 years, the economic impact of the Lufthansa flight is anticipated to contribute approximately $3.3 billion to North Carolina's economy.
