Malaysian Officials Reveal Plans for new Flymojo Airline

Airline News

Malaysian officials have announced plans to launch a new airline after reaching a $1.5 billion agreement with aircraft manufacturer Bombardier.

The deal means that Malaysia will purchase 20 CS100 aircraft, with options for 20 more, for flymojo, the new airline.

The carrier will be based out Kota Kinabalu in east Malaysia and Johor Bahru in the south.

The information was announced at Malaysia's Langkawi International Maritime & Aerospace Exhibition.

The agreement means flymojo is expected to become the first customer and operator of the CS100 aircraft in the region.

Aziz Kaprawi, Malaysian deputy minister of transport, said: "Revealing this new airline in Malaysia is a thrilling way to start LIMA.

"With flymojo's primary hub at Johor's Senai International Airport and secondary hub in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, the airline's state-of-the-art fleet of CS100 aircraft will be of crucial importance in enhancing connectivity between the Peninsula and Sabah and Sarawak, as well as other parts of the region.

“Furthermore, as the only airline with its headquarters in the Southern Corridor, flymojo will make a key regional aviation and logistics hub out of Senai, thus complementing the government's plans to develop Iskandar Malaysia and the Southern Corridor.

"Further consolidating Kota Kinabalu's position as a gateway into Malaysia, flymojo will also increase tourism to Sabah and Sarawak."

Ed Fast, minister of international trade, Canada, declared: "I would like to congratulate Bombardier Commercial Aircraft and Malaysia’s flymojo on behalf of the government of Canada. They are working together to bring the CSeries aircraft to Malaysia and the ASEAN region."

Reports suggest the new airline will start operating in October this year.
