Manchester: Flight schedule will be operated as normal
After terror attack on Monday, flights departing from Manchester airport will stick to schedule, as Victoria railway station will remain closed.
With the violent incident during Ariana Grande’s concert at Manchester Arena, authorities in UK have deployed hundreds of officers on the streets surrounding the area of the attack. While the police goes on with the investigations, several security measures were taken in order to prevent further unpleasant events: Victoria railway station is still closed, as well as the traffic in the adjacent streets.
Despite the situation though, flights will operate as normal. According to the Manchester airport’s representatives “flights are scheduled to operate as normal today, however some transport links to the airport maybe affected. Please check before you travel. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the terrible events at Manchester Arena.”
Nevertheless, passengers are advised to follow the official websites of the airline companies for updates on the situation before planning their trip and are asked to remain vigilant and report any unusual activity to the nearest police officer.
Moreover, public transportation to and from the airport is expected to be disturbed following the violent concert attack.
As Manchester is not a top touristic destination, air travel is considered to be less affected when compared to other cities in the world that experienced this situation. With long-haul arrivals increasing by 11 per cent in the first half of 2017, the situation is yet to be monitored for a more accurate feed-back on air-traffic disruptions.
Meanwhile, despite security measures, threat level in Manchester remains critical.
