More Than 277,000 Tourists Visited Slovenia in January

Slovenia hosted 277,025 tourists in January, which is a 48.5 percent increase year-on-year.

According to SchengenVisaInfo.com, the figures show that Slovenia's tourism sector is improving despite the severe situation caused by COVID-19 restrictions.

Trading Economic's figures show that domestic tourists were also higher in the first month this year, reaching 100,099 visitors. This is an 8.2 percent increase year-on-year.

International visitors saw an 88.1 percent increase to 176,926 in January 2023.

These are the countries that accounted for the majority of tourists who visited Slovenia last month:

  • Croatia (56 per cent)
  • Italy (249.9%)
  • Serbia (110.1 per cent)
  • Austria (93.4 per cent)
  • Hungary (22.7 percent)

According to reports, overnight stays increased by 38.2% compared to previous year's figures to 780 and 694 respectively in January.

"The highest number of tourist overnight stays was recorded in spa resorts (51.8 per cent), followed by seaside resorts (33.2 per cent) and mountain resorts (17 per cent)," the statement mentions.

According to the Statistical Office of Slovenia, Slovenia received a total of 4.9 Million tourists in the period January through September 2013. This is an increase of 64.2 percent compared with the numbers for the same period 2021.

According to the same source, domestic tourists have also increased in number. They accounted for nearly 1.6 million of all arrivals.

Interestingly, the majority of foreigners who visited Slovenia between January and September 2013 were also citizens from:

  • Germany
  • Italy
  • Austria
  • Netherlands

According to data, more than 13.2 Million tourists spent nights in Slovenian establishments during the first nine months last year. This represents a 54% increase.

Due to the strict restrictions that were imposed to prevent the Coronavirus from spreading further, Slovenia also saw a decline in tourists.

However, the tourism and travel sector in Slovenia have seen a significant improvement in the last few years due to the COVID-19 data.

According to the Statistical Office of Slovenia, the cities of Piran, Bled and Ljubljana received 795,000 visitors in June 2013. This is a good start to the peak summer season.
