Prague City Tourism Starts a Digital Campaign to Boost Tourism

News

Prague City Tourism is starting a digital campaign that aims to increase inbound tourism.

Christmas is the most popular season in Prague. Prague City Tourism launched a digital campaign to increase inbound tourism. According to the company, 75% of 2019's visitors will be from the metropolis. This is approximately half a million people. The available data also shows that traditional Russian visitors are being replaced by domestic travellers or travelers from Germany, Poland, and the Netherlands. The campaign will be run in neighboring countries, in Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands. It will be entirely funded by the company, who has set aside CZK 700,000.

“We looked forward with anticipation to the number of travellers visiting the capital this year in view of the pandemic and the conflict in Ukraine. Based on current data, we are at 70% to 75% of the 2019 figure - an ideal state of affairs for the city given the overtourism of past years. Moreover, it is clear that by targeting other source markets we have successfully managed to compensate for the absence of tourists from Russia,” explains Petr Zeman, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Prague City Tourism.

Prague City Tourism experts estimate that around half a million tourists will visit the capital in December. Prague's visitor count is still 75% higher than the 2019 pre-pandemic numbers. Experts at the PCT believe that targeted campaigns will help to replace the decline in Russian tourists, who have traditionally been a significant group of foreign visitors to Prague. This goal is also being met by the Christmas campaign, which draws visitors to Prague's unique atmosphere in December. It also promotes authentic and traditional Christmas customs.

“In designing the Christmas campaign, we referred to data from the summer ‘Stay in Prague’ campaign, meaning we are targeting neighbouring countries as well as the Netherlands, Italy and Spain, where it showed the best results,” explains František Cipro, Chairman of the Board of Prague City Tourism, adding: “During the Advent season, tourists from all over the world come to Prague. That is why we have launched a Christmas website prague.eu/Christmas alongside the campaign, where visitors can find comprehensive information about Christmas in Prague, markets and individual events. It includes practically everything related to Advent in the capital.” The Christmas website is also available for domestic visitors to Prague at prague.eu/vanoce.

The campaign visual highlights Prague's sophisticated image. The visual was created by Mara Cmara of the DRAWetc. It depicts Prague's iconic landmarks and the magic atmosphere it and its people evoke. Prague City Tourism is a campaign that targets tourists interested in history and culture as well as unique dining experiences. The campaign will continue until 2022.
The company will be expanding its range of services for the Prague Visitor Pass in time for Christmas. It includes guided walks, classic monuments and public transport throughout Prague. Christmas spirit has taken over tram line 42 of the tourist circuit, which was festively decorated.
