Groupe ADP Invests $20 Million in LanzaJet to Boost Sustainable Aviation Fuel Production
Groupe ADP invests in LanzaJet to enhance SAF production, supporting the decarbonization of air transport and transforming airports into energy hubs.
Groupe ADP Boosts Support for Sustainable Aviation Fuels
Strategic Investment in LanzaJet
Groupe ADP is increasing its support for sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) by investing $20 million in LanzaJet, an American producer of SAF. This move is part of Groupe ADP's '2025 Pioneers' roadmap, which aims to transform airports into energy hubs capable of supplying electricity, sustainable aviation fuels, and low-carbon hydrogen.
Advancing SAF Production and Deployment
LanzaJet is renowned for its mature and proven production technology, converting ethanol into aviation fuel on a large scale. This investment aligns with Groupe ADP's ongoing efforts to support the industry and accelerate the decarbonization of air transport. Through its subsidiary ADP International, Groupe ADP aims to enhance LanzaJet's production and deployment capabilities.
Key Aspects of LanzaJet's Technology
LanzaJet’s solution is based on:
- Advanced technology for converting ethanol into sustainable fuel.
- A flexible process using various feedstocks, including municipal waste, forestry residues, and agricultural residues.
- Adaptable production to different inputs available in various regions.
Groupe ADP's Commitment to Decarbonization
Expanding SAF Availability
Groupe ADP's investment follows its pioneering efforts in the SAF sector, including offering a permanent dual SAF option at Paris-Le Bourget airport and investing in the United Airlines Ventures Sustainable Flight FundSM. The new investment will help LanzaJet expand its technology deployment and global growth, supporting the production of SAF at competitive prices in Paris and worldwide.
Transforming Airports into Energy Hubs
Augustin de Romanet, CEO of Groupe ADP, emphasized the importance of transforming airports into energy hubs with a range of low-carbon solutions. He stated, "The airport revolution must happen now, and it is underway in Paris. As the world's leading airport operator, we wanted to go further and act at source by supporting the production of sustainable aviation fuel."
LanzaJet's Global Expansion
Launch of the World's First Ethanol-to-Jet Plant
LanzaJet opened the world’s first commercial ethanol-to-jet plant in Georgia, USA, in January. The company plans to develop additional factories in Europe, Asia, and America, aiming for a production target of 1 billion gallons (3.79 billion liters) by 2030. The first American factory produces 10 million gallons of SAF annually, achieving an 80% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to kerosene.
Collaborative Efforts to Decarbonize Aviation
Jimmy Samartzis, CEO of LanzaJet, highlighted the significance of Groupe ADP's investment, stating, "With this significant contribution from Groupe ADP – a first-of-its-kind in the industry, we will expand LanzaJet’s technology deployment and global growth. Together, we will work towards expanding Sustainable Aviation Fuel production and logistics into airports to support airlines and Groupe ADP customers worldwide as the industry works collaboratively to decarbonize."
