New Route to Chisinau Set to Enhance Connectivity for Moldovan Community

Manchester Airport is excited to announce its inaugural direct flights to Moldova, offering a vital link for the North's Moldovan community to connect with family and friends. Starting 17 December, Moldovan airline FLYONE will operate flights to the Moldovan capital, Chisinau, twice a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays. One-way fares will start from £19.

Welcoming News for the Moldovan Community

The new flights have been warmly received by the Moldovan Ambassador to the UK, who emphasized the importance of this connection for the Moldovan diaspora. Ambassador Ruslan Bolbocean stated, “The Embassy of the Republic of Moldova is pleased to welcome the launch of the direct flight between Chisinau and Manchester. This new connection is an important development for the Moldovan diaspora in the North West of England and enhances cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the UK.” He expressed gratitude for the productive discussions with Manchester Airport earlier this year, encouraging airlines to explore similar opportunities for improved connectivity.

Discovering Moldova's Hidden Gems

Moldova, one of Europe’s least visited countries, boasts a rich cultural landscape, featuring an award-winning wine scene, stunning natural beauty such as Old Orhei and its surrounding National Park, and various cultural attractions.

Stephen Turner, Chief Commercial Officer at Manchester Airport, commented on the significance of the new route, saying, “We are proud to connect the North to the world through our route network of more than 200 destinations, more than any UK airport outside London. A key part of that is connecting people to friends and family in other countries.” He expressed delight at the opportunity for local Moldovans to visit their homeland directly from Manchester.

Economic and Cultural Benefits

Dina Railean, Chair of the Moldovan Diaspora Business Alliance, highlighted the broader implications of the new route for business and trade. “We are thrilled to see this connection come to fruition, providing Moldovans with a direct link to their homeland. This route will facilitate faster business travel and cargo transport for companies engaging with Moldova,” she noted. Railean also emphasized the leisure travel potential, as Chisinau becomes more accessible to Manchester residents.

Mircea Maleca, General Director of FLYONE, echoed these sentiments, stating, “The launch of this route is our response to numerous requests. We analyze travelers’ preferences and strive to provide solutions that meet the needs of the diaspora, businesspeople, and adventurous travelers.”
