Mexico remains one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, especially with winter coming to the United States, Canada, and Europe.
Mexico's stunning beaches and fascinating history, rich culture, and award-winning resorts and hotels all-inclusive make it a top vacation spot. The U.S. State Department has issued a travel advisory stating that Mexico's tourist hotspots can be visited safely.
The U.S. was close to issuing a blanket travel advisory covering the whole country but eventually decided to break down risk factors according to state. This means that Mexico's most popular tourist destinations, such as Baja California Sur and Mexico City, Quintana Roo, Yucatan, and Quintana Roo, are at a Level 2 or below as of October 5th. This means travelers should take extra precautions or be cautious when traveling to Mexico.
There are many risk factors, including crime and kidnapping. However, the State Department makes it clear that violence is not directed at tourists.
The U.S. government has no restrictions on personnel's travel to popular destinations like Cancun, Los Cabos, and Puerto Vallarta.
According to the State Department, "There are no restrictions on travel for U.S. government employees in Quintana Roo state, which include tourist areas in Cancun, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and the Riviera Maya. However, personnel is advised to exercise increased situational awareness after dark in downtown areas of Cancun, Tulum, and Playa del Carmen, and to remain in well-lit pedestrian streets and tourist zones."
"There are no restrictions on travel for U.S. government employees in Baja California Sur state, which includes tourist areas in: Cabo San Lucas, San Jose del Cabo, and La Paz."
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a Watch Level 1 Travel Health Note for Mexico. It explains that travelers should follow the usual precautions while visiting Mexico.
