Name a Train on the Marston Vale Line: London Northwestern Railway Launches Competition

London Northwestern Railway invites the public to name a Class 150 train on the Marston Vale Line in celebration of the full timetable's return, alongside a major ticket discount offer.

 

London Northwestern Railway (LNR) has initiated a unique competition, calling on the public to propose names for a Class 150 train operating on the Marston Vale Line, between Bedford and Bletchley. This contest marks the reinstatement of the line's full rail timetable and aims to honor significant people and locations along the route. Alongside this celebratory competition, LNR is introducing a significant ticket promotion, offering discounts of up to 90% on standard fares, varying by journey.

Since November 2023, a limited service had been operational on the Marston Vale Line, following LNR's deployment of a replacement train fleet. This was a response to the previous service provider's cessation of operations in December 2022 due to financial difficulties. The comprehensive timetable was restored on Monday, 19 February, with Class 150 trains, previously serviced by Northern, now facilitating travel on the line.

The competition's winning name will be selected by a panel consisting of LNR representatives and the Marston Vale Community Partnership. Cara Higgs, LNR's Community Strategy Manager, expressed enthusiasm for the competition and the special naming ceremony planned for the winner. She also highlighted the exceptional ticket offer available for the next three months, significantly reducing travel costs on the line.

Participants interested in the competition can submit their entries online or through forms available at Ridgmont Station Heritage Centre and Tea Room. The deadline for submissions is Monday, 4 March, with the winner being invited to the naming ceremony at Bletchley Statio
