OC Transpo Provides Update on O-Train Extensions and Service Enhancements

OC Transpo has provided a comprehensive update on the progress of three O-Train extensions in Ottawa, Canada, and ongoing efforts to enhance the service reliability of O-Train Line 1. The city is also introducing new Stadler FLIRT trains and connecting the network to new and upgraded stations.

O-Train East Extension

Progress on the O-Train East Line 1 extension through Orléans to Trim Station is ongoing. Construction is advancing on five new transit stations, and train activity is set to increase as testing expands. This testing is now underway on the Overhead Catenary System (OCS), power, and train control equipment near Montréal Station.

O-Train West Extension

In the west, track installation and station construction are steadily progressing to expand Line 1 West to Algonquin Station. As part of this project, cut and cover tunnels have been established, with most structure work now complete. Preparations are also underway for installing tracks in the tunnels at Connaught Park and Byron Linear Park.

O-Train South Extension

The O-Train South extension will expand Line 2 South to Limebank and Airport Stations. This project is currently focused on testing the new system and training OC Transpo operations staff. Over the next several months, testing will continue with trains running on O-Train lines 2 and 4 at final service levels for several weeks. This period will demonstrate the overall system’s reliability and prepare it for public opening.

Enhancing O-Train Line 1 Reliability

To improve the long-term reliability of Line 1, corrective work will take place in October, including rail grinding and ballast stabilization. Vehicle and track infrastructure work has also been ongoing since last October, providing rail gap management, rail flange lubrication, top-of-rail friction modifiers, and nut-pinning enhancements to the wheel hub assembly.
