SWISS will mark a significant milestone in modernizing its long-haul aircraft fleet. The airline will introduce five new, highly efficient and carbon-efficient Airbus A350-900 twinjets into its intercontinental operations starting in 2025.
In the long-term, the new aircraft will replace four of SWISS's remaining four-engined Airbus A340 300s. The Airbus A350-900 long-haul aircraft is among the quietest and low-emission of its type and will significantly improve SWISS's carbon emissions. SWISS will equip its new twinjets with a high-quality cabin interior, which will enhance the air travel experience for all classes of passengers.
Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS), is making a major leap forward in modernizing its long-haul aircraft fleet. The largest airline in Switzerland will soon take delivery of five A350-900 twinjets that are highly efficient, low-emission, and cost-effective. These will replace four A340-300s. The Lufthansa Group placed a total order of 25 A350-900s in 2019. SWISS further emphasizes its efforts to make its flight operations more sustainable, as well as improve the customer's air travel experience in all classes.
"We are very pleased to have achieved our turnaround after the coronavirus crisis and be back on a sound financial track," says SWISS Chief Executive Officer Dieter Vranckx. "As a result of this, we are now in a position to invest again in the future of our company, in our people and in the quality that we offer our travelling guests. With this planned substantial modernization of our long-haul aircraft fleet, we are setting a vital course to sustainably maintain our competitive edge over the longer term."
A modern, low-emission, and economically-friendly aircraft of the latest generation
Two-engined Airbus A350-900 long-haul aircraft is among the most efficient and economically viable in airline service. It emits 25% less carbon dioxide than its predecessor and is twice as quiet. The A350-900 also consumes as little as 2.5 liters of kerosene per 100 passenger kilometers. The twinjet's SWISS configuration will feature a state-of-the-art cabin interior for all classes. The twinjet has a large cargo capacity, which will support SWISS's Swiss WorldCargo company.
CEO Vranckx says, "Our acquisition of the Airbus A350-900 represents a clear commitment towards further enhancing our flight operations sustainability." Our new twinjet long-haul aircraft will be a significant part of achieving our ambitious climate goals. We are further proving our status as a premium airline by adding this new-generation aircraft to the fleet with all its extra comfort for passengers.
