The Ryder Cup Has Been A Boon For Tourism In Italy

Entertainment

After the Ryder Cup's triumph in Rome, tourism officials in Italy are eager to host more major athletic events.

Officials from the Italian government stated that tourism in Rome has seen a significant increase thanks to the Ryder Cup, with the area around the host city seeing the highest number of online reservations in all of Italy. Thousands of spectators have travelled from the US and Europe to watch the two teams compete over the course of three days at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Italy.

Approximately 58% of rooms in Rome's central Lazio area had been booked via online channels as of September 25 according to statistics from Italy's Ministry of Tourism, which is much higher than the national monthly mean of 45.5%.

Tourism Minister Daniela Santanche released a statement explaining the Ryder Cup's impact on the city's visitor numbers, saying that the authorities acknowledge once again, the propulsive drive that tourism gets from great athletic events.

When compared to other popular Italian destinations like the Amalfi Coast, the islands of Capri and Ischia, and the Tuscan area that includes Florence, Siena, and the Chianti hills, Rome came out on top.

The Italian government is moving on with a proposal to host the Expo 2030 global fair in Rome, while the city's mayor, Roberto Gualtieri, has complimented the Ryder Cup's beneficial impact on tourism and highlighted the necessity of holding significant events in the city.

Poste Italiane, the Italian postal service, has also joined the trend. On Friday, it announced that it has released a stamp honouring the opening day of the Ryder Cup, including a graphic for the competition that features a golfer on the left and the Colosseum on the right.
