Royal Caribbean Group to open Galveston terminal
The world’s first zero-energy cruise terminal will be inaugurated on November 9, 2022.
The Royal Caribbean International’s hub will fully generate its energy via on-site solar panels and will be the first ever LEED Zero Energy facility. The cruise terminal at the Port of Galveston in Texas will also be awarded LEED Gold certification in 2023.
Jason Liberty, president and CEO of the Royal Caribbean Group, declared:
“We are focused on innovating across all aspects of our company, especially in our work to advance sustainability in the communities we visit. We deeply value both the oceans we sail and the communities we visit and operate in, and the modern design and development features at our terminal in Galveston will work in service of both.”
While developing the innovative hub, Royal Caribbean Group aimed at remaining committed to its approached environmental strategies, including aspects such as the development of sustainable infrastructure, decarbonization, renewable energy and carbon emissions reduction, local and global environmental advantages, light pollution reduction, community connectivity and better transport alternatives and many more.
The new terminal in Galveston is the first ever to receive Gold certification and the fourth to be registered as a LEED certified facility, following the Royal Caribbean Group owned Terminal A at PortMiami, the Springfield in the Oregon campus and the Innovation Lab in Miami.
The construction of the 161.334-square-foot cruise terminal in Galveston, Texas was worth $125 million and is expected to significantly enhance cruise capacity and cruise traffic in the area.
