SAS Introduces Free High-Speed Wi-Fi Across Entire Fleet with SpaceX’s Starlink
SAS is set to revolutionize in-flight connectivity by introducing free high-speed Wi-Fi for passengers, powered by SpaceX’s Starlink. This next-generation technology promises low-latency, reliable internet across all travel classes, enabling passengers to enjoy seamless connectivity throughout their flights. The phased rollout will begin by the end of 2025.
A New Era of In-Flight Connectivity
Starlink’s satellite constellation, the world’s largest and first to operate in low Earth orbit, will provide global coverage, including challenging regions like the North Pole, the Atlantic Ocean, and the North Sea. These areas, which were previously prone to connectivity disruptions from traditional satellite services, will now experience stable, high-speed internet.
Paul Verhagen, Chief Commercial Officer at SAS, commented:
“By introducing this new technology, we’re connecting our passengers to the world like never before. We’re putting an end to frustrating interruptions and ushering in a new era of connectivity. Our passengers can now count on a connection that is as stable and seamless as it is fast, whether flying over the Atlantic or the North Sea.”
Continuous Connectivity from Gate to Gate
Unlike current systems that only provide internet after takeoff and disconnect during descent, SAS passengers will be connected from boarding to disembarking. This gate-to-gate Wi-Fi will enhance the overall in-flight experience, offering uninterrupted work, entertainment, and communication throughout the flight.
Jason Fritch, Vice President of Starlink Enterprise Sales at SpaceX, said:
“We’re excited to provide reliable, high-speed internet across the entire SAS fleet, leveling up the in-flight experience for passengers and crew. Starlink offers connectivity that is as good, if not better, than at home while flying across the Atlantic, North Sea, and North Pole—areas that have historically been challenging for in-flight internet.”
Smarter Design with Sustainability in Mind
Starlink’s aeroterminals are engineered to reduce aerodynamic drag and fuel consumption, supporting SAS’ ongoing sustainability efforts. This design is a step toward more eco-efficient air travel in line with the airline’s broader environmental goals.
Multi-Device Compatibility for Passengers
The new Wi-Fi service will support multiple devices simultaneously, ensuring that passengers can stay productive or entertained on their smartphones, tablets, and laptops without compromise.
The Future of Connectivity with SAS
By the end of 2025, SAS will offer free, high-speed Wi-Fi across its entire fleet, making it a game-changer for travelers. With continuous, reliable connectivity, passengers can enjoy a seamless travel experience, whether working, staying in touch with loved ones, or enjoying entertainment throughout their flight.
