Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines Celebrate Air India-Vistara Merger

Mergers and Appointments (MICE)

Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines (SIA) celebrated the successful merger of Air India and Vistara at a symbolic ceremony held at the Taj Mahal Hotel in New Delhi. The merger marks a significant milestone in their longstanding partnership and the ongoing transformation of the Indian aviation industry.

Key Leaders Mark the Merger’s Significance

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, and Mr. Goh Choon Phong, CEO of Singapore Airlines, along with senior management and employees from Tata, SIA, Air India, and Vistara. The merger is part of the five-year Vihaan.AI transformation programme, which aims to enhance Air India’s capabilities and improve its customer experience.

Strengthening the Air India Group

The merger consolidates the four airlines under the Air India Group into one full-service and one low-cost carrier. This will enable the Group to strengthen its presence in key market segments—domestic, international, full-service, and low-cost operations—across the Indian aviation landscape. The Group now operates a combined fleet of 300 aircraft, covering 55 domestic and 48 international destinations, with 312 routes and 8,300 flights per week. Additionally, Air India Group will provide extensive connectivity to over 800 destinations through more than 75 codeshare and interline partners.

Leadership Statements on the Merger

Mr. Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, remarked, “The merger between Air India and Vistara is an important milestone in our commitment to transforming Air India into a world-class global airline. Singapore Airlines has been a strategic partner in our aviation journey, and we are delighted to welcome them to Air India.”

Mr. Goh Choon Phong, CEO of Singapore Airlines, expressed: “This merger marks a pivotal moment for Indian aviation. We are focused on supporting the ongoing transformation of the enlarged Air India Group and restoring Air India to its leading position in the market. Our continued commercial collaboration with Air India will offer greater value and enhanced options for customers traveling between India and Singapore, and beyond.”

A Strong Future Ahead

The successful integration of Air India and Vistara under the Air India Group, backed by Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines, sets the stage for a competitive, customer-focused airline group. With a combined workforce of over 30,000 employees, this partnership signals a bright future for the aviation sector in India.
