The heat in Europe severely affects travelers

The high temperatures striking most of the continent challenges holiday-makers and hotel managers.

The high pressure dome heading from Spain to Eastern Europe has been severely affecting Spain, Italy, Hungary, Serbia, Croatia and Romania, as in these areas there was almost no cloud cover this summer.

The extremely hot weather in Europe affects both tourists and the travel industry, as according to the latest “State of the Climate” global report issued by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the first half of the year has been the hottest for some parts of Western Europe.

“According to Spain’s meteorological agency, AEMET, a record high in the country was set on July 13 — 47.3 degrees Celsius [117.1 Fahrenheit] — in Montoro. The heat has gone on day after day after day in cities with lots of buildings and concrete and not many parks. There’s no break at night. You open a window hoping for a cool breeze, but you’re standing in front of a hair dryer,” Jonathan Erdman, senior digital meteorologist at Weather Channel explained.

The situation is fairly unbearable for travelers preferring the multi-city European tours for their holidays this year, as the heat inside concrete neighborhoods can often be very brutal.

Accommodation is another problem, due to the fact that not every hotel in Europe has air conditioning systems or fans, and the holiday of people booking such places is practically ruined by the heat during both days and nights.

Hotel owners are trying to cope their best by insulating rooms, providing extra-fans and preparing the pools in order for their guests to cool down. Counseling the guests on when to walk around the city so that they avoid peak moments also helps. This way, the tourists can avoid the emergency room due to extreme temperatures and not ruin their vacation.
