Titanic Belfast wins Europe’s number one attraction title
The Eiffel Tower in Paris has lost its title this year, as Titanic Belfast has been rewarded as Europe’s leading visitor attraction by the World Travel Awards
Despite facing a stiff competition such as the Acropolis in Athens, Buckingham Palace in London, the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin, La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona and the Roman Colosseum, Titanic Belfast won the prestigious Europe’s number one attraction award, while expecting the event in Maldives on 12th December, when it will be competing for the World’s Leading Attraction title.
With this occasion, Arlene Foster, the Northern Ireland First Minister commented: “In just four short years, Titanic Belfast has become an iconic tourist attraction, attracting over three million visitors from all over the world. Titanic Belfast is now a global brand which has put Northern Ireland on the map for all the right reasons. The official confirmation that it is now Europe’s leading tourist attraction is well deserved.”
The Belfast center, recreated in the Harland & Wolff shipyard where the Titanic came to life, has proudly received the WTA award after just four years of activity.
Titanic Belfast tells the story of the magnificent cruise ship sinking back in 1912 in the North Atlantic Ocean during its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City. Since its opening in 2012, when it marked 100 years since the sinking of the Titanic, the center has sold 338.000 postcards and over 20.000 Titanic snow globes. With a capacity that equals the one of the Titanic itself (3.547 people), Titanic Belfast has welcomed its three-millionth visitor last month.
