Tourism Is a Top Priority In Qatar
Qatar is hoping to broaden its economy by attracting more tourists.
High-profile international athletic events, including as last year's FIFA World Cup, and a brand-new cruise liner terminal in Doha are also part of the tourism sector’s push.
Qatar Tourism Vice President of International Markets Philip Dickinson declared for the public:
"In line with the national strategy, Qatar National Vision 2030, we are expanding our tourism value proposition and are excited to welcome travellers from around the world to experience the best of Qatari hospitality both on sea and land."
Many new five-star hotels in Qatar debuted in 2022, and more are on the way as the country's tourist industry develops. There are several five-star hotels in Doha, including the St. Regis Marsa Arabia Island, Waldorf Astoria Doha West Bay, Waldorf Astoria Lusail, Raffles Doha, Fairmont Doha, Le Royal Méridien City Center Doha, Andaz Doha, and Rosewood Doha, to name a few.
The cruise industry has also been a major contributor to the expansion of the country's tourist industry, as Dickinson noted. Qatar has developed comprehensive plans to enhance tourism, with an optimistic objective of attracting over 6 million people per year by 2030, in light of its hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Increasing the number of cruisers and ships making Doha their home port is essential to this goal. The new Grand Cruise Terminal can be found in the heart of Doha, not far from the Museum of Islamic Art and the Souq Waqif. Up to 12,000 people per day may be accommodated at the port. The terminal also features a number of interesting venues, such as an aquarium and a museum of art. Over a thousand arches in the cruise terminal's design are a nod to traditional Arabian architecture and provide a dramatic first impression.
Over the course of the 2022–2023 season (from November to April), Qatar Tourism anticipated receiving over 200,000 cruise passengers onboard 95 different ships. Costa Cruises, Ponant, Emerald Cruises, TUI, and Silversea Cruises are just few of the cruise lines that have operated to or from Qatar, or who have intentions to do so in 2023.
There are many exciting things to do in Qatar, from riding camels in the desert to staying in luxurious five-star hotels. Highs in the winter average about 77 degrees Fahrenheit, with lows around 57. In addition, there are an average of 320 sunny days each year throughout the country.
Travelling to and within the nation is a breeze. Both Hamad International Airport and Qatar Airways are consistently ranked among the very best in the world. Many of the most popular tourist destinations are connected by the new Metro system.
Visitors should be conscious that "showing respect for local culture" includes not dressing too provocatively in public. It is recommended that tourists to Qatar wear attire that covers the knees and shoulders when shopping. Only restaurants located inside prominent international hotels stock alcoholic beverages.
While Arabic is the country's official tongue, many Qataris also speak perfect English.
