Tourism sector cyberattacks are on the rise

News

heck Point Research's Threat Intelligence Report has released data showing that the number of worldwide cyberattacks related to the tourism sector increased by 60% when compared to the same period last year.

“For many of us, this may be the first time we have travelled abroad since the pandemic, and as such, there may be certain elements of our travel routines that we may have forgotten, including our cybersecurity hygiene habits, which is music to the ears of opportunistic hackers looking to take advantage of relaxed attitudes and unprotected devices", explained Rui Duro, Country Manager at Check Point Software Technologies, Portugal.

Hackers know that businesses are most vulnerable during the summer season, weekends or holidays, so sometimes these kind of attacks are difficult to spot by business owners. In order to enhance security, Check Point shared some tips that operators can apply: remain vigilant while using public Wi-Fi networks, do not share passwords or any other credentials, do not automatically connect to any kind of internet network or service, use enhanced multi-factor authentication options, install enhanced security apps, be careful while using the ATM machines.

According to Diário de Notícias, despite recent flight delays and cancellations or significant rise in travel prices, global travel is expected to reach high levels during this season, about 11% above the pre-pandemic period.
