TUI Collaborates with National Geographic to Enhance Small-Group Day Excursions

Destinations & Tourism

In a significant development, TUI's tours and activities division, TUI Musement, has broadened its collaboration with National Geographic Expeditions, introducing an array of 40 new NatGeo Day Tours.

Expanding beyond the confines of cruise itineraries, these NatGeo Day Tours are now available for independent booking, offering a diverse selection of one-day and half-day itineraries. As disclosed in an official partnership update from TUI, these specialized tours focus on beach and city experiences across renowned destinations such as Barcelona, Cancun, Crete, Paphos, New York, Naples, and Tenerife.

Guided by National Geographic-trained experts, these tours are conducted in intimate groups ranging from 8 to 15 individuals, adhering to the stringent sustainability criteria set by the TUI groups’ Global Sustainable Tourism Council.

Examples of NatGeo tours include an exploration of Miró's multifaceted artworks in Barcelona, Spain, led by architectural and art restoration specialists in the immersive Homage to Miró experience. Additionally, participants can engage in coral reef conservation in Cancun, Mexico, led by marine biologists and oceanographers as part of the National Geographic Pristine Seas project in the Unveiling the Importance of Reef Restoration tour.

TUI Musement's CEO, Peter Ulwahn, emphasized the company's commitment to the growth of the tours and activities sector, citing a notable increase in city destination experiences, particularly as shore excursions. The cruise sector has experienced a remarkable 69% year-on-year growth in TUI's cruise products from April to June of this year, compared to the corresponding period in 2022.

Further statistics reveal a noteworthy 90% year-on-year increase in the booking of TUI Collections in city destinations. Over the period from October 2022 to September 2023, TUI Musement facilitated more than 1 million direct bookings, marking a significant milestone in the company's ongoing success.

Ulwahn expressed his enthusiasm for the National Geographic Day Tours, describing them as "once-in-a-lifetime experiences" that intricately weave narratives of destinations, honoring the rich legacy of National Geographic and delivering top-quality, authentic, local experiences.
