UAE Women's Day: Planning The Future at Umm Al Emarat Park
The United Arab Emirates will soon mark Emirati Women's Day, a national holiday honouring women for their many contributions to society.
Umm Al Emarat Park, the oldest and most prominent city park in Abu Dhabi, is a prime example that works to promote women's rights throughout the country.
The park, formerly known as Mushrif Park, aims to support the people and tourists of Abu Dhabi by offering community-focused educational as well as recreational amenities and events, while numerous initiatives have been developed thanks to partnerships with Emirati women. Several popular festivals and events, such as Miami Vibes, The Rage, The Park Market, and outstanding art exhibits, have been held here with great success. The activities have highlighted the permanent participation of Emirati women business owners and volunteers.
The yearly Park Market is a great way to show your support for local entrepreneurs in the UAE. Twelve local women business owners will present their wares in the areas of textiles, toys, crochet, flowers, food and drinks, and fragrances at this year's Umm Al Emarat Park market.
In honour of this year's Emirati Women's Day, the slogan "We Collaborate For Tomorrow" has been adopted as the official slogan of the event. The subject was selected to coincide with UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's proclamation that 2023 would be designated as the "Year of Sustainability," emphasizing the country's dedication to developing novel strategies to resolving issues related to environmental preservation.
By prioritizing the well-being of its natural surroundings, Umm Al Emarat Park has established itself as an innovative sustainability hub. The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's dream of safeguarding the United Arab Emirates' natural heritage and cultural artefacts for future generations has inspired the park's layout.
Several environmental initiatives will be implemented by the Park in an effort to increase ecosystems and protect the natural environment. Home to around 175,000 plants and 1,500 trees, with green spaces covering an estimated 170,000 square meters, the reserve has played an important role in the preservation of numerous plant and wildlife species. Its ecologically friendly irrigation system uses purified water, which also employs automated irrigation methods to help cut down on water usage and ensure that plants get the proper quantity of nutrients at the right time, based on the ambient temperature. Also, around 70% of the Park's organic fertilizer requirements are met by the recycling of roughly 30 tons of agricultural waste yearly. The Park is home to more than 200 rehabilitated mature trees, including some of the oldest in Abu Dhabi at over 20 years old.
For its dedication to environmental preservation, Umm Al Emarat Park was awarded the Green Flag Award, the gold standard for green areas worldwide, for three consecutive years.
Umm Al Emarat Park is a smoke-free zone where Emirati ladies and their children may relax and enjoy each other's company, perfect for relaxing pastimes like yoga, meditation, and art.
