This represents 86% of 2019's expected international arrivals and 95% of expected expenditures. The study further reveals that in 2022, the average length of stay for these tourists was 7.5 days, up from 7.1 days in 2019. Foreign visitors spent an extra 10.5% on average in Spain in 2022, reports the National Statistics Institute.

“The data that we know today confirms the intense recovery of the tourism sector in 2022. The expectations we had of recovering the majority of international tourists from the pre-pandemic have been met, but the most important thing is that spending is growing more and also the average stay and this means an improvement in the quality and profitability of our sector,” commented Reyes Maroto, the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism.

More INE numbers show that last year saw a decrease in tourist spending of 95 percent from 2019's record high of €87,061 million. Meanwhile, in 2022, travellers spent an average of €1,217 on their trips, an increase of €116 from 2019.

On the other hand, total expenditure in the Netherlands increased by €4,904 million, or 18.5%, from levels seen before the coronavirus outbreak. As a result, French tourists spent 7.3% more than usual, totalling €8,149,000,000. The United Kingdom has the highest overall expenditures at €17,145 million, followed by Germany at €11,513 million, France at €8,149 million, and the Nordic nations of Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland at €5,959 million. In the United States, we have $5.267.1 million, in the Netherlands, $4.904.15 million, and in Italy, $3,533.15 million.

In addition, according to the information provided by the INE, Spain was visited by 71.6 million visitors from other countries in 2022. This figure represents 86 percent of the total number of tourists that travelled to Spain in 2019.
