War in Ukraine - latest news

News

As Russian President Vladimir Putin is more and more isolated from the rest of the world, the West aims to continue to defend democracy.

“[Putin] sought to shake the foundations of the free world thinking he could make it bend to his menacing ways. But he badly miscalculated”, Joe Biden stated.

According to a senior U.S. defence official’s statements, the Russian army is severely affected by food and fuel shortages, as the Ukrainian troops still resist invasion. Nevertheless, due to limited supply routes, the Western world’s efforts to help Ukraine with military equipment are being hindered.

Latest sanctions: seven Russian banks will be removed from Swift and the US imposed a ban over Russian aircraft transiting its airspace and Russian markets remain closed. Exxon will shut oil production in Russia and Mastercard changes policy for cash withdraws here. The International Criminal Court has announced the investigation of possible war crimes in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, in Ukraine, a missile almost stroke the local government’s headquarters in Kharkiv and the TV tower in Kyiv was struck by Russian forces. Five more people lost their lives.

As the Russian shelling in urban areas intensifies, civilians are more and more affected. 21 people were killed and 112 injured during shelling in Kharkiv.

Refugee numbers are estimated at around 600.000, as President Zelensky applies for EU membership in an attempt to help his country.

Despite numerous sanctions from the West, President Vladimir Putin refuses to stop the attacks and continues to kill dozens of innocent civilians.

The US president Joe Biden stated that Vladimir Putin will definitely “pay a price” for his aggression, as Russia is “weaker, and the rest of the world stronger.”

“Putin has unleashed violence and chaos. But while he may make gains on the battlefield – he will pay a continuing high price over the long run,” President Biden declared.
