British Airway Announces Partnership with Airlink

News

British Airways announced a codeshare partnership agreement with Airlink. This will improve connectivity between the UK and Europe, North America, and more than 15 destinations in Southern Africa.

Airlink, a regional premium airline, has bases in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban in South Africa. It also serves cities in 14 other countries including South Africa and Zimbabwe.

British Airways customers who travel from London or transit through London will now be able to connect via Cape Town or Johannesburg with one ticket. This agreement will give customers more flexibility and choice when they travel to any of the 18 cities and towns, including Windhoek in Namibia or Durban in South Africa.

British Airways currently operates two daily flights between London Heathrow (Johannesburg) and Johannesburg (A380 aircraft), twice daily between London Heathrow, Johannesburg and Cape Town (B777 and A350 aircraft), and three times per semaine between London Gatwick, Cape Town and London Heathrow with B777 aircraft.

Avios can be earned by members of the Executive Club loyalty program at British Airways. Avios, the currency of the program, can be used to pay part-payment for Reward Flights and upgrades as well as hotel stays and car hire.

Neil Chernoff, British Airways' Director of Network and Alliances stated that: "Our flights to Cape Town and Johannesburg continue to be as popular as ever with our customers, so we're pleased to be able to open up more options in the Southern African region. Our partnership with Airlink means that customers will be able to book a full journey on one ticket, allowing seamless travel all the way from London to their final destination."

"This is an important next step in our partnership with British Airways, which has a phenomenal global reach into the most important markets for our region. The marriage of our two networks will benefit both British Airways' and Airlink's customers, giving them even more choice with a wide range of itinerary options and connectivity possibilities," mentioned Airlink's CEO, Rodger Foster.

There are 18 destinations that can be codeshared when you travel from Heathrow via Johannesburg or Cape Town. Examples include:

  • London Heathrow to Durban via Johannesburg
  • London Heathrow to Port Elizabeth (South Africa), via Cape Town or Johannesburg
  • London Heathrow to Skukuza South Africa via Cape Town and Johannesburg
  • London Heathrow to Windhoek Namibia via Cape Town, Johannesburg
